Kevin Smith's new movie "Red State" actually looks really good.
I wasn't a huge fan of Dogma, though I thought there were some good bits. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is generally recognised as being a low point and from what I've heard Cop Out actually sunk even lower. It was looking like the best bet with Kevin Smith movies were if they had the word "Clerks" somewhere in the title.
So imagine my surprise when I got to the end of the "Red State" trailer and found myself thinking "wow". Just to warn you though, the first 30 seconds is deceptive. Towards the end of the trailer John Goodman is gruffly talking into a mobile phone saying "You said that this was going to be a simple in and out sir? Simple just shit itself." By that point, all expectations you might have had at the beginning have drastically shifted.
I'm not sure that Quentin Tarantino's quote is necessarily a guarantee of quality. I think he just loves anything with Michael Parks in it and, I must say, it looks like Michael Parks is probably pretty awesome in this.
