I was a bit unnerved recently when one of my youtube videos received a rather low rating. One person had rated it and they'd given it 1 star out of 5.

I mean, naturally that's fair enough. If people don't like it, they don't have to give it a good rating. Besides, it's not like it was a video I'd spent much time on. Nevertheless, I was a little concerned.

I decided to look through the 'insight' options on youtube. Some part of me wanted to find some clue as to who had rated my video so poorly, but I didn't really hold out any hope. I was just browsing... So imagine my surprise when I discovered that the video had been discovered by some people through an embedded video on some random blogs. I was somewhat chuffed until I discovered where the video had been embedded.

Suffice it to say, with these sites causing the vast majority of hits my video I should probably thank my lucky stars I didn't have an awful lot more 1-star ratings. Seriously, check this out:

"Blue Collar Philosophy".

The actual website address was "WhyIAmNotADemocrat"
Within the margin you can find this quality nonsense:

The unifying themes of this blog are that:
(1) Liberalism or sometimes called Progressivism is a false religion that stands in total antithesis to biblical Christianity.
(2) Progressives claim to support hard working Americans but actually hold their values in contempt.
(3)Progressive policies of the Left actually hurt hard working men and women who support their families, through the Left's Marxist redistributionary taxes.
(4)Family values are undermined by the Left's radical social agendas.

Progress is antithetical to Christianity? Tell me something I didn't know! *wink*

Ah, taxes which redistribute wealth to the poor are labelled as Marxism. How very Christian.

The other blog was

"Bare Naked Islam"
Their tagline is: It isn't Islamophobia when they really ARE trying to kill you.

At the bottom of the page there's a link to one of their previous blog articles:
"BOO FRICKEN HOO! Heres the crap you'll see in the liberal media about the poor Palestinans who were evicted from their homes in jerusalem"

Classy......

The Content of the Video

Those of you who didn't watch the original video might be wondering what I could have posted which attracted their attention. Well the video consists in some clips from a documentary which feature the evangelical nutcase Stephen Green, self-appointed leader of the fringe evangelical group "Christian Voice". Their main achievements are hyping up the rather naff 'blasphemous' musical "Jerry Springer - The Opera" and drawing everyone's attention to how outdated and worthless the blasphemy law really is. (As a result, the blasphemy law in the UK has now been repealed.)

Stephen Green's protests involve standing outside the place they are protesting against to sing hymns and pray. The video features a protest against the building of a mosque and the following, increasingly bigoted, comments are made in prayer:

"They don't need a dead prophet, they need a living saviour."
Ah, the nice familiar message of fundamentalist Christianity that we are all on conveyor belt to hell and in desperate need to be 'saved'. I remember it being a regular claim within my university's Christian Union that the problem with other religions was that their founder was dead (in some cases getting it 'dead wrong' *BOO-BOOM CLASH!* when they mention the Buddha).
"Every Muslim is the same. In their heart they hate you. Islam is not a peaceful religion. Islam is actually an evil spirit of evil violence.

An "evil spirit of evil violence" eh? Yeah, well he was making it up on the spot. That's one of my issues with prayer. It's hardly surprising that people come out with so much cr*p when they are saying the first thing that comes to their head. Trying to produce words which are 'inspired' by God on the spot is likely to produce a great deal that is deeply uninspiring.

The claim that deep down all Muslims hate you sounds extremely paranoid and it's a worrying sentiment.

"The Muslims have come into our land like a flood Lord. Lord, will you stand against this? Put obstacles in the way Lord. Will you push back the powers of darkness Father?"

Come into our land like a flood? Yep, that's immigration. Whatever they decide to say about forces of evil or terrorist violence - in the end, their main concern is simple xenophobia.

Stephen Green goes on to explain that Allah is Satan. He later explains that he believes that without Christian dominance the UK will end up in civil war with the Muslim minority. (Because naturally a group forming less than 4% of the population who are the regular focus of tabloid prejudice are going to be a formidable force in a civil war. *slapface*)

Birds of a feather flock together and both the aforementioned blogs seem to be very keen to welcome Stephen Green into their gaggle.

Here's what Blue Collar Philosophy (or "Why I Am Not A Democrat") had to say about the video's content:

"Liberals continue to defend the false religion of Islam and attack Christianity, and they do so at their own peril. Islam is a Totalitarian religion that stands in total antithesis to biblical Christianity. Islam was started by a false prophet who taught a value system that turns God's Ten Commandments upside down. Here is a taste of what is to come for those Christians willing to speak the truth about Islam and how only Jesus Christ is the true way to God."

(The word 'antithesis' links to another entry on their blog entitled: "Could Islam be the Religion of the Beast in the Book of Revelation?" Needless to say they are strongly inclined to answer 'yes' to think question.)

"A taste of things to come for those Christians willing to speak the truth about Islam." It seems fairly clear that they are referring to the aforementioned bigots from 'Christian Voice'. What's not so obvious is what they think has happened to the Christian Voice group that is so unfair. I guess the answer is "if you call Allah 'the Anti-Christ' mean old documentary makers will take the piss." Awwww diddums!

Here's what "Bare Naked Islam" had to say about the video's content:

Growing ANTI-MOSQUE/ANTI-ISLAM sentiment infuriates European liberals and apologists
"Here a British reporter tries to demonize a Christian group that is protesting the building of yet another mosque in London. Notice how he labels them "Christian fundamentalists" and calls their feelings about Muslims "inflammatory, objectionable, and offensive.""

News flash - It isn't mean to call them "Christian fundamentalists". That is what they would call themselves. They are Christians who claim to be sticking to the 'fundamentals' of Christianity.

On this site, my video shared the honour with another video. This one was from the 'Mosaic Intelligence Report'. I'm afraid there was a lot in this rather meandering video which I did not entirely agree with. However, I was still able to feel like a 'brother in arms' with these guys anyway since the one comment 'Bare Naked Islam' decided to contest was the one statement I wholeheartedly agreed with. That was that Islamophobia in the UK is making it harder for Muslims to integrate into UK society. (For those who are confused at all by this line of thought, Munira Mirza explains it very well in an article on Spiked. The more Muslims feel they are in a situation of 'us and them', the less inclined they will be to integrate.)

Bare Naked Islam makes the following comments in regards to the video from MIR:
"Here, the Muslim narrator blames "Islamophobia" for making it difficult for Muslims to integrate into European society, when it is actually Muslims' refusal to integrate into Western society that is responsible for the growing anti-Muslim bias.""

Since naturally Muslims would be just as unwilling to integrate if the locals didn't treat them with hostility.... Still, I suppose I ought to give them a little credit for admitting that there actually is an anti-Muslim bias rather than simply people hating Muslims because "they suck". Still they seem to have failed to recognise that they have set up a chicken and egg scenario. After all, surely immigrants should not have to integrate into British society before they are treated without unfair prejudice?

In Summary

Not only does my discovery of these blogs make me feel much happier about my 1-star rating on Youtube. (Quite chuffed actually.) It also makes me feel all the more confident about my point in my previous journal entry which the video was intended to shed light on. These bigoted blogs have the same kind of sentiment Pat Condell is professing. His annoyance with liberals in his latest video is very similar to the anti-liberal sentiment found in these blogs. If he really would like to think of himself as a liberal then I'm sure this is all very sad for him, but in the end these bigoted blogs are looking closer to his current line of thought.
