White Lightnin'
This movie was number 10 in Mark Kermode's top ten movies of the year (2009) and I'm afraid I'm not sold on it. Kermode says "The best appalachian mountain dancing, psychotic, surreal, it's-true-but-it-isn't, fantasy of the year."
"It's-true-but-it-isn't", refers to the fact that the movie is sometimes narrated by the main chracter as if it's a true story. To be quite honest, it is absolutely no surprise that it's not a true story.
This is one of those movies where one event happens after another and you just follow it along. It got a certain way along when I realised that it wasn't going anywhere. It's well shot, well acted and reasonably engaging, but as it gets more and more violent and horrible we realise there's no real point to it all. In the end I found this movie deeply unsatisfying.
